Albert Bourke RIP

Last week, all at Ballysteen GAA were saddened at the passing of Albert Bourke. Albert excelled at both hurling and football throughout his time playing winning honours in both codes.

In football, Albert was part of the victorious Askeaton Intermediate County Championship side of 1992 and played county for the Limerick Junior Football team.

In hurling, he won a West U-21 B Championship in 1988 with Askeaton-Ballysteen before going on to captain the Askeaton Junior B Hurling team to West honours in 1993. He was part of the team that retained this Championship in 1994. In 1995, he played a pivotal role in the Askeaton side that won their first West Junior A Championship in 60 years.

Following on from playing, Albert continued to be an influential figure within both hurling and football clubs of the parish. In 2008, he was a selector for the Ballysteen side that would claim County Championship honours. While in 2010, he was involved with Askeaton hurling team that won the West Junior A Championship.

Albert will be greatly missed as will his passion for the clubs he represented throughout his life. Ballysteen GAA extends it's sympathy to his wife Fiona, mother Bridie, brothers Bernard and Aidan, sister Deirdre, his extended family and many friends.

Inter-County Action

A big weekend of Championship action lies ahead with the LIT Gaelic Grounds hosting the Senior & Minor Hurling Finals this weekend. Many will remember the joyous scenes that 2013 brought about when Limerick lasted played in both finals at the Gaelic Grounds. Hopefully this Sunday will see Limerick reclaim provincial glory for the first time since then. Best of luck to the management team and players, especially William O'Meara who is part of the panel.

Disappointment for the Limerick Senior Footballers as they bowed out the All Ireland Football Championship following defeat to Westmeath on a full time scoreline of 2-13 to 1-10 last Saturday evening. However, players and management must be commended for the effort they displayed not just through out this match but throughout the entire season. Hopefully in 2020 they can build on the work they have done so far.

The Limerick U-20 Footballers suffered a last gasp defeat to Clare in the Liam O'Connor Tournament. Well done to Cillian Ferris who captained the side and Jason Daly who is part of the panel. The U-20's start their Championship with a tough trip to Tipperary on July 2nd. Best of luck to all involved.
