U12 Football

Thursday 16th May

Cappamore 4-07 vs 4-02 Cois Laoi Gaels

We played Cois Laoi Gaels in a highly entertaining and competitive football match.

Cois Laoi Gaels started the brighter and were off the mark that bit quicker than us. They got two early goals to race into 2-0 to 0-0 lead. We replied with 2 points from Ben Ryan and we were just getting into the game when Cois Laoi Gaels struck for another goal. We finished out the first half better and closed the gap on the scoreboard when Cian O'Connor scored a goal.

That left the half time score Cappamore 1-02 to Cois Laoi Gaels 3-01.

We regrouped at half time and then upped our game in the second half.

Dion added a point shortly after the restart, then Chris Smith knocked over a point, and when Ben Ryan soloed through the center to score the first of his two goals we were back level at 2-4 to 3-1. We soon took the lead for the first time in the match when Dion split the uprights with a fine point. We weren't having it all our own way and the opposition managed to score another goal to go 2 points clear again. Now it was 4-01 to 2-05. This was a major blow to the team after working so hard to get back into the game, but the boys showed great and heart and determination to not let that set-back affect them. We worked really hard over the next few mins and when Ben Ryan added his second goal we were back in front, 4-01 to 3-05. Cois Laoi Gael equalised with a point at the other end. For the last few mins the lads really dug deep and we manged to get the final three scores of the match,1-02 scored by Dion Doyle.

It was a great team performance with every one of the starting players and the subs that came on all contributing to a deserved but hard fought victory. This was an enjoyable and exciting match to watch. That's 2 win and 1 loss from our 3 football matches so far.

Squad: Darragh O'Shaughnessy, Andrew Caher, Cillian O'Dwyer, James Ryan, Alex Heney, Thomas Shanahan, Jacob Wright, Ben Ryan (2-02), Chris Smith (0-01), Dion Doyle(1-04), Leo Keogh, David Meehan, Cathal Mulligan, Cian O'Connor (1-00), Tommy Dillon, Tommy Hartnett, Tadgh Blackwell

Also in the squad but not togged out due to injury and illness were Cathal Mulcahy(broken finger), Jake Slattery (ankle sprain) and Mali Keogh (Chest infection) We wish them all a speedy recovery.
