Patrickswell club notes

February 18, 2019

U-21 HURLERS: The U-21 hurlers continued their winning start to the Championship season by defeating Na Piarsaigh in Rhebogue. Patrickswell made an impressive start and led by 0-3 to 0-0 within five minutes. Na Piarsaigh managed to settle into the match and replied with two consecutive points.  Shortly afterwards, Jason Gillane and Josh Considine gave the 'Well a 0-5 to 0-2 advantage; however the Caherdavin team responded with two fresh scores.  After fifteen minutes, Patrickswell held a narrow 0-5 to 0-4 lead.  Des Foley's men enjoyed a short purple patch and racked up three unanswered points to build a 0-8 to 0-4 margin.  Na Piarsaigh were resilient and reduced the arrears with yet another two point burst.  Thankfully, Cillian O'Reilly scored a late point to establish a 0-9 to 0-6 half-time buffer.

The second half was a tighter contest and points were harder to register.  Na Piarsaigh notched the opening point, but Jason Gillane cancelled out that particular score.  Na Piarsaigh chalked up another point before John Flynn replied in kind.  Paudie Maher fired a vital point to provide some breathing space. As the match entered its final quarter, the 'Well led by 0-12 to 0-8.  However, two Na Piarsaigh points slashed the margin to 0-12 to 0-10.  The 'Well produced another point to cement a one-goal lead at 0-13 to 0-10 with two minutes remaining.  Na Piarsaigh earned a long-distance free at the start of injury time.  Instead of aiming for a goal, they settled for a point and hoped that the referee would grant additional time.  The Patrickswell defence stood firm and we held out for a 0-13 to 0-11 victory.

The next Championship match is on Tuesday February 19 against Monaleen in Rhebogue at 7.30pm.
