SENIOR FOOTBALLERS

Our Senior Footballers were in action in the final round of the Co Senior Football Championship on Saturday when they travelled to Bruff to take on Ballylanders .

Knowing that nothing other than a win would suffice, the pressure was on to deliver.

Permeatations meant that games elsewhere would ultimately decide our faith we nevertheless knew we had a job to do.

We had a very good start and dominated possession early on.

We had some very good scores in the opening half with Dylan Cronin showing up well with 4 points to his name.

Gordon Brown and Eoin Hogan also had a brace each and a Tommy Grimes point had our tally up to 9 points at the interval where we led 0-9 to 0-4.

The breeze in Bruff made sure it was gonna be a "game of 2 halves" so as we got set for the restart we knew the on slaught was coming.

The big turning point in this game came early when full back Dean McLoughlin received a black card out by the touchline.

This proved vital as the full back now did not look as solid

However we soldiered on and had plenty of ball but somehow only managed 3 second half points.

At the other end Bally were awarded a penalty and a black card for Ronan Lynch which they duly dispatched.

This brought our lead back to 2 points entering the final 10 minutes.

You could sense that Ballylanders had their tails up now and 3 further points had them in front with time running out.

It was centre back Kevin Nolan who drew the sides level with an excellent point.

However our opponents had the last say and 3 unanswered points sealed their victory.

We now must gather ourselves for a winner takes all( or winner stays senior) clash with City rivals St Patrick's.

Final Score Na Piarsaigh 0-12 Ballylanders 1-12

UNDER 14 HURLERS

Our under 14 hurlers were in County semi final action on Sunday when we made the short trip to the Gaelic Grounds to take on City rivals Monaleen.

This was always going to be tough for the lads having succumbed to their opponents on numerous occasions in the past.

We got  a tonic start inside the first minute when full forward Ben Sheehan goaled following good work out the field .We then conceded three quick fire frees to be level on 5 minutes.

We stretched out our lead again with some excellent points from Vince Harrington, Bradley Moran and Wayne Kearns but again 3 frees allowed Monaleen back into the contest.

Two Vince Harrington frees had us 1-5 to 0-6 in front at the break.

No doubt some good advice and reassurance in the dressing room had the desired affect and the lads played some excellent hurling in the second half.

Points from Vince Harrington(2), Wayne Kearns and James Naughton stretched our lead to 4 .

Josh Sheehan made it 5 with an excellent left handed shot on the run.

The action heated up inside the last few minutes and a second goal from Ben Sheehan all but sealed the victory.

However Monaleen still drove forward and twice were foiled, first by the crossbar and then by a brilliant save from James Linnane.

Overall an excellent performance by this young team.

Final Score Na Piarsaigh 2-11 Monaleen 1-10
