Caherline club notes

September 17, 2018

COUNTY JUNIOR A HURLING: On Saturday evening last, we played Patrickswell in a Junior A Quarter Final in Claughaun. Not too dissimilar to the U-16 game earlier in the day, where the breeze played a big part in the game, we played with it in the first half, going in at half time up by 4 points, 0-09 to 0-05. In the 2nd half, Patrickswell went up a few gears, scoring 8 unanswered points in the 1st 9 minutes, to take a 4 point lead, the breeze a strong factor in their play. Two frees from Andrew pulled it back to a 2 point game, but the 'Well hit us with a goal and 2 points in the space of 90 seconds, to take a 7 point lead with 16 left to play. A point each from Andrew & Aaron and a penalty from Andrew pulled us back into it, but another goal & a point for the 'Well in the closing stages put the game beyond us, the game finishing 2-18 to 1-13.

On behalf of the 2018 Junior management team, we would like to thank all the people who made a contribution to our quest for the year...alas, we didn't achieve our goal, but to all officers, parents, supporters & partners, a big thank you - it takes big sacrifices and this is only a simple acknowledgement to say THANKS.

MINOR HURLING: Our East Minor B Hurling Championship Final against Pallasgreen is tentatively set for Friday evening next, September 21st in Cappamore, with a 6pm throw-in time, but this will be confirmed later in the week.

U-16 HURLING: On Saturday afternoon last, our U-16's came up against a very strong outfit in Croagh/Kilfinny/Rathkeale in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale. It was a great game of hurling from both teams, very physical and with some great scores from both sides. Caherline played with the breeze in the first half, but it was CKR who had the better start, going 3-03 to 0-02 up after 15 mins. Caherline responded with 3 goals of the own, a goal each from Hugh Murnane, Josh Moloney & Jack McElligott, to see us go in at half time up by 2 points, 3-07 to 3-05. In the 2nd half, CKR dominated for a lot of the half, playing with the breeze. They added their 4th goal 4 mins into the half & their 5th half way through the half and they really drove on from there, taking the win by 7 in the end, 5-13 to 3-12. All of the lads should be very proud of how they played, they fought until the very end and indeed should be proud of the season they've put in.
