A Limerick hurling supporter who suffered a heart attack after the All-Ireland SHC final has received a massive boost in his recovery.
George Barnby (71) suffered the heart attack on the Luas as he made his way home from the game and only for the quick-thinking of Galway nurse Claire Dolphin, the incident could have been fatal.
However, George had heart surgery on Thursday and ahead of that received a big boost when a signed ball and card from the Limerick squad was given to him.
His daughter Chloe told the Limerick Leader that her father was delighted to receive such a gift from the players he had cheered on just hours beforehand.
“He was delighted,” said Chloe. “We even had a few nurses from Limerick in to have a look. It really brightened his mood. My Dad would like to say thank you very much to the team for the sliotar and the card.”
