Caherline club notes

June 18, 2018

JUNIOR A HURLING: Caherline took on Ballybricken on Saturday evening last and played the better hurling in the 1st half, despite the weather, leading at half time 0-06 to 0-03, 4 frees from Gary Murphy & points from play from Kevin Wixted & James Enright accounting for our scores. 5 minutes into the second half, Andrew Brennan pounced for a goal, adding to an earlier point from Gary Murphy, to see us push ahead 1-07 to 0-05. Ballybricken picked up the pace after that and always seemed to have a man free, scoring three quick points to leave them 2 points down with 14 mins to play. Two more frees from Gary pushed us out to 4 points in front with 9 to go, but Ballybricken dug in and scored 1-04 in the last 8 mins, to take the win on a scoreline of Caherline 1-09 Ballybricken 1-12. The lads will be disappointed to lose this one, but we can only look ahead now to the next game against Murroe-Boher. TEAM: M Moloney, W O'Keefe, P O'Keefe, D Murnane, D Balfry, W Hourigan, D Power, D Corbett, K Wixted (0-01), G Murphy (0-07(6f)), Js Enright (0-01), Jk Enright, J Carroll, A Brennan (1-00), E Nelligan. SUBS: R Murnane, M O'Dea, C Hickey, D Casey, S Kennedy, P Wixted.

U-14 HURLING: Caherline U-14's played St Kierans on Wednesday June 13th, in the fourth round of the U-14 championship. This was a game where Caherline proved too strong for a gallant St Kierans team. Caherline led from start to finish and their defense was only breached once with the concession of a goal in the first half. At half time, Caherline led by 12 points on a scoreline of Caherline 3-6 St Kierans 1-0. The second half progressed much like the first with Caherline applying most of the pressure and St Kieran's hitting back on the break. The Caherline boys kept the scoreboard ticking over consistently throughout the second half with Jack McElligott running up an impressive personal tally. The match finished on a final score of Caherline 5-15 St Kierans 1-00. Well done and thanks to the players who all made a great contribution to a big win. Our next fixture is June 20th where we take on Pallasgreen. Panel of players on the day was: Thomas Carroll, Stephen McAnulty, Sean Partridge, Sean McGrath, Niall Connaughton, Kieran Godfrey, Andy Foley (0-1), Hugh Murnane (0-3), Cathal Kearns, Conor Martin (0-2), Sam McElligott (0-2), Zack Vaughan, Tadhg Spencer, Jack McElligott (5-7), Michael Murnane, Conor Partridge, Alex Murnane.

U-12 HURLING: Our U-12 hurlers played Knockainey in the final 1st phase game last Thursday evening. Knockainey were strong favourites, having beaten Bruree & Hospital-Herbertstown, however Derek, Mark & Billy (in Mike's absence), fired up the boys & girls and they gave an outstanding display, their best of year so far. They kept plugging away and were unlucky to lose out by a single point, in a final score of Knockainey 2-03, Caherline 1-05. We will now be graded and a play off game will be played on June 28th, after which there will be a semi-final & final in July. Selectors were very proud of their performance, well done all !

U-10 HURLING: Our U-10's had a fantastic day in Naas on Saturday last, June 16th. All the kids were a credit to the club & their families. Well done on winning your final and for the huge effort you all put in during the group stages. There was some exceptional play & everyone played for their their team. Thanks also to the parents who travelled up, it was great to have you with us for the day.
