Galbally Club Notes

April 23, 2018

Galbally GAA were saddened to learn of the death of Mike Henebry last week. He served Galbally GAA in many capacities as a player, officer and team mentor over the years. He was full forward on the Galbally team that won the County Junior Football title in 1968, a proud day for the family. He was one of four Henebry brothers on that team, lining out alongside his brothers Lar, Bill and Tommy (RIP). As his playing career wound down, he began to serve in many roles within the club, taking charge of many underage teams and serving in almost every position in the boardroom. He held the positions of Chairman, Secretary, Vice Chairman, Assistant Secretary, PRO, Registrar, South Board Delegate and County Board Delegate for Galbally GAA and may well have the record for holding more positions within Galbally GAA club than any other individual, perhaps only rivalled by the late Padraig S O'Riain.

At various stages he was part of the management team for the Galbally Senior Footballers and Junior Hurlers and for numerous underage teams in hurling and football. He was hugely devoted to underage throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and was part of the various Bord Na nOg committees. He also acted as Vice Chairman of the South Senior Board for many years. Modern generations might not always be cognisant of those who held positions in previous years, but the record books show that his service to Galbally GAA over a number of decades was second to none, a true club stalwart. In recent years he became a keen supporter of his grandchildren playing for Glenroe at underage level. We express our sympathies to all the family members. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
