Mallon, Pat

Bas Pat Mallon One of the town's best-loved characters, Pat Mallon, Pat, who came from Dublin sixty -six years ago to work and live in D'Arcy's, High St, was known by all and sundry in Ballinamore and surrounds. Pat was passionately interested in football, in the fortunes of his native Dublin, Sean O'Heslins and Leitrim. In the early 1940s when the Ballinamore club was suspended, a parish league kept activity going and Pat played for the town team. In later years Pat Mallon was a Vice President of the club and club members participated in the guard of honour at his removal. Pat was a deeply religious man and great tributes were paid to him at his funeral mass by Fr Heery and by Gay D'Arcy. Go ndeana Dia trocaire air. Courtesy of the Leitrim Observer 14 October 2005
