Under 21
We congratulate St Manchan's on winning the Under 21 Championship in Ballinamore on Saturday last. Things were not going our way in the first half but the lads kept within shooting range of a lively Gorteenagh side and pulled out all stops in the second half to win comfortably in the end. Eamon Duignan was in Ballinamore to present the Cup which was first presented by Mohill Club in 1978 - 38 years ago - in honour of his father. The first winners of the cup were Lough Rynn Gaels, a Mohill & Gortletteragh amalgamation. They defeated Ballinamore on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-5 and the captain that day was Luke Early. It was nice to see some of the Gorteenagh team joining the Manchan's boys later on Saturday evening in the town. There is great rivalry between both teams, but great friends always.
League Div 1 semi-final
We will have another big game this weekend when we meet the Intermediate Champions Ballinamore in the semi-final of the League. The game is a home fixture so we will expect a big crowd of supporters.
History of Mohill GAA
On December 10 at 8.30pm in the Baronial Hall Lough Rynn Castle, Aogán Ó Fearghail National President of the GAA will Launch the club's history titled, Clear the Way. We thank the generous people of Mohill and surrounding areas who have sponsored pages. Their donations have helped greatly with the printing costs. This history book will be of interest to everyone in Mohill as most families have had some connection to the Club at some stage over the last 126 years. Indeed there are still strong connections with the founding fathers and the present officers and players. Everyone is welcome to the launch, it is an open invitation and there will be finger food on the night .
Tighe Family Fundraiser
On Friday night next Dec 2 there is a fundraiser in Beirne's Bar for the Tighe Family. This is a talent Competition in the form of X Factor with John Lynch of Shannonside the MC. The Tighes are a wonderful GAA family, Paul trains the Under14s and is always available to help out on every club occasion. Jordan and Molly play underage and Alannah is a great supporter. Their lovely mother Catriona is at present in University College Hospital Galway and thankfully is making great progress in her treatment so we wish her a speedy and full recovery. Everyone is asked to support this worthy cause. X Factor, Beirne's Bar next Friday 2 at 8.30 sharp.
Recent Bereavement
We extend our deepest sympathy to the Logan, Cassells and Latimer families on the untimely death of Jill Latimer last week. All these families have strong ties with Mohill GAA over the years. May her gentle soul rest in peace, Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.
