Aughawillan club notes

September 28, 2016

Leitrim Senior Football Championship Finalists 2016: It was the 14 September 2015, that the die was cast, and a word of warning, bespoke "with the centenary of the Rising in 2016, we give forth a word of warning, that we too, Aughawillan, will rise again!".  Hard work,  steadfast determination and  raw energy have now secured Aughawillan a place in the Senior Football Championship Final 2016. Aughawillan secured the first and second point of the game with elegance and ease. Gortlettragh showed great commitment, contesting every ball and blocking down. However the Aughawillan men lead throughout the game and created strong scoring opportunities on numerous occasions, the half-time score was left at Aughawillan 0-04 to Gortlettragh 0-02. Aughawillan opened up the second half with a point, but the opposition quickly retaliated with a point. Aughawillan never a team to be browbeaten quickly increased their lead with two further points. It was with a four point lead Aughawillan 0-07 to Gortlettragh 0-03, that Aughawillan lead when Gortlettragh secured a goal and brought the difference to just one point, but Aughawillan were quick to react with sinuous teamwork and a point. Aughawillan 0-08 to Gortlettragh 1-03. Further graceful team collaboration by Aughawillan, created additional opportunities but on this occasion the two extra gortlettragh men on defense were pioneered. A moment of joviality was murmured through the crowd as Aughawillan's Cinderella was not permitted time to put on his boot. Some superb teamwork was displayed again by the Aughawillan men and an excellent point in play alleviated the stress on the score line. Aughawillan 0-09 to Gortlettragh 1-03. With less than three minutes to go hearts were tested as the Aughawillan goalie made an excellent save and gortlettragh managed two late points, but ultimately Aughawillan retained the lead they had throughout the game, were steadfast in their purpose and accomplishing their mission, booked their place in the Senior County Championship Final 2016. Willies Abú!!
