Former Glencar/Manorhamilton footballer Mark Rooney has passed away at the age of 38, following a long illness.

Mark, who died on Saturday, was an outstanding footballer with his club, winning a SFC medal in 1999, when he was still eligible for the U21 grade. Indeed, that was only Glencar/Manor's second-ever senior championship success, bridging the 22-year gap to their maiden victory in 1977.

Player/selector on the 2009 championship-winning side, Mark also had the distinction of representing his county at every level from U16 up to U21.

Mark's uncles, the great Micheál & his brother James Kearins, were stars of Sligo's 1975 Connacht SFC winning team, while his brother, Aidan (who featured alongside him in attack on the 1999 club SFC-winning side and is current Glencar manager), won a provincial medal with Leitrim in 1994.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Natalie, sons Zach and Oscar, mother Dympna, brother Aidan, sister Rosaleen and extended family as well as his many friends and everybody associated with Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA.
