Connacht LGF Senior & Intermediate championship launch

June 27, 2016

Thursday evening last Cumann Peil Connacht na mBan (CLGFC) in association with TG4 launched the Connacht Ladies Gaelic Football Senio and Intermediate Championships in the Province at the Connacht GAA Centre.

CLGFC are hosting both  TG4 senior and  intermediate finals on Sunday 3rd  July at Elvery's McHale Park Castlebar Co. Mayo.

Galway and Mayo will meet in a hugely anticipated senior clash in which the Mayo team under the guidance of Frank Browne will be hoping to make home advantage count. Mayo's   good   run   in   the   Lidl   NL   has   really   put   them   in   a   strong   position   for   the championship. Galway is looking for their fifth title in a row under new manager Willie Ward. However, this Galway side recently had retirements of Annette Clarke and Lorna Joyce. Many of the big names have not returned to the fold like Emer Flaherty, Sinead Burke and Geraldine Conneally and others. However, Mayo will present a determined opponent with  the  likes  of  Sarah  Rowe  and  Aileen  Gilroy  returning after  a  spell  of injuries  and other  comments. They  are assisted  with  experience  from Yvonne Byrne, captain Sarah Tierney, Fiona McHale and the legendary Cora Staunton amongst their ranks.

Will we have another Kevin Walsh in Frank Browne for Mayo and upset the tables on stopping Galway taking five in a row.

This is the fifth year of the Connacht Intermediate Championship where Leitrim, and Sligo have shared the spoils for the previous years. They both contest the final for the third year in a row with the 'Gift of Life Cup' at stake. Leitrim are the holders where they had a three point win over Sligo in 2015.

Connacht Council greatly acknowledges the significant financial contribution of TG4 to Ladies Gaelic Football in the Province.

Connacht Council wish all counties, management and in particular the players all thebest for the championships and thanked them for their continued support to LGF.
