Leitrim manager Shane Ward believes that the win over Waterford in the qualifiers is a huge boost to his charges.

The 'reward' for their win over the Deise is a trip to Markievicz Park to take on Sligo in the next round.

And Ward feels that they will go into that game without any trepidation having won their first qualifier match since 2012.

"The guys are presented with a chance and opportunity to take another step. The last time they won in 2012, Leitrim didn't step on after that and were very unlucky not too," said Ward.

"You can't underestimate the confidence the win will give them boys. They spend a lot of time in the face of adversity where everyone is harping on that they are not good enough for this or not good enough for that, they are not doing this or not doing that.

"We're trying to instil confidence in them within the four walls of the dressingroom so credit where credit is due."
