Ballinamore Festival
Well done to former player Cormac O'Suilleabhain and current incumbent Tommy Spike McCormack who officially opened this year Family festival on Sunday gone. The rain stayed away and both regaled the crowd with their own memories of festivals of yesteryear with aplomb and helped launch this years packed calendar which includes a number of GAA related events such as the over 40's football which should give the youngsters a glimpse of some of the stars of the past.

Seniors Book Quarter final berth
Well done to the senior lads who were in action on Saturday evening in Carrick in their final group game of this year's intermediate championship. There was certainly all to play for in this group encounter with the winner guaranteed a place in the quarter final and the loser potentially earning a place in the playoff.

The match took place in conditions more reminiscent of October than August with wind and rain both playing their part, Ballinamore were the first to open the scoring with the impressive Dean McGovern striding forward to knock over from the left, the lads did not have it all their own way in the opening with Philip Farley called into action with an excellent save to deny Drumkeerin a goal. Ballinamore were still creating chances and had an opportunity on 4mins to increase the lead but the subsequent free was wide , in a bright opening Ballinamore had another wide on 6 from Liam and straight away Phillip denied Drumkeerin another goal scoring opportunity after a high ball into the box. Drumkeerin quickly added two points of their own to lead the game for the first time, when Ballinamore worked an excellent move started and finished by Dean McGovern who drove in a goal after the best move of the match to give SOH the lead by 1:1 to 0:2 on 15mins. Ballinamore were starting to take control with Niall McGovern adding a good point and Luke Murphy forcing an excellent save from the Drumkeerin keeper. Drumkeerin added the next two scores to narrow the gap before Ballinamore and then Drumkeerin both shot two wides as the game moved towards half time where Peter Reynolds added an excellent point to leave the half time score at 1:3 to 0:4.

Ballinamore started the second half as they finished the 1st adding a quick point by Brian Beirne to increase the lead to 3 followed then by a couple of minutes of Drumkeerin pressure where they added a point of their own and forced Phillip into another good save to leave the scores at 1:4 to 0:5, Ballinamore were coping well with the pressure at the back and quickly broke with Luke Murphy who added a point and then Brian Beirne again forcing the keeper to make a save. Ballinamore then had another wide from a free while Drumkeerin kicked two wides of their own. As the clock ticked down Drumkeerin increased the pressure and cut the lead to two with a point of their own to leave the score at 1:5 to 0:6, they continued to push forward looking for a goal and again in injury time forced Philip Farley into another good save which he did well to push out, the Baallinamore lads were dealing well with the pressure and it was left to Donal Feely to break away and score a great point and make the game safe for Ballinamore and book a quarter final place while Drumkeerin will have to make do with a place in the play off.
Team Philip Farley, Keelan McHugh, Liam Ferguson, Donal Feely (0:1), Philip Murphy, Nial McGovern, Wayne McKeon, Shane Moran, Dean McGovern (1:1), David Duigan, Luke Murphy 0:1), Anthony McTague, Brian Beirne (0:1), Peter Reynolds (0:1), Brian Leydon

Juniors Lose final group game

Our second team had already qualified for the quarter finals of the junior championship, as had their opponents Melvin Gaels. Their game on Sunday morning was a close contest with Melvin Gaels having the better of the first half but a Paul McLoughlin goal left it 1-5 to 1-2  to Melvin Gaels at half time. After half-time we had a great run with four points in a row to lead by one but then disaster struck when a 45 went all the way to the net for Melvin Gaels. A second goal for the Gaels left us with a lot to do but they battled hard and a goal from Conor Moran brought us back into it again. It finished 3-9 to 1-9 for Melvin Gaels. Foireann : Denis Dolan, Darren Creavin, Kevin Banks, Mark O'Reilly, Paddy Connaughton, Kevin O'Connor, James Hamill (0-1). Ryan Gavin, Oisín McCaffrey (0-1), Ronan O'Rourke (0-1), Paul McLoughlin (1-1), David McLoughlin, Conor Moran (1-0), Shane McWeeney (0-5), Daragh Murphy. Subs: Eoin McHugh for Daragh Murphy, Brian Banks for Mark O'Reilly.

Comhghairdeas
Well done to former Ballinamore SOH and Leitrim great Brian Barney Breen who led his latest charges Tir Chonnaill Gaels to the division one league championship in London recently, this victory leaves Barney on a par with Jose Mourinho as one of the most successful managers in London. Well done Barney!!!

Comhghairdeas
Well done to Tommy McCormack, Adrian Gallogly, David Dolan and Paddy McLoughlin who claimed victory in the Leitrim GAA golf classic.

Also a massive well done to Jack Gallogly, Cahill Mchugh, Daragh Gleason and Nathan McCartin who all represented Leitrim at U15 this weekend against Donegal, unfortunately they could not claim victory on this occasion but it certainly bodes well for Ballinamore to see four of our underage players representing the county. Hopefully there will be many more appearance's for the lads in the future.
