Senior Championship:
On Saturday evening last our first team qualified for the Quarter Final of the Senior Championship with a gutsy 0-11 to 0-10 win over St. Mary's in Cloone. After a close first half, we struggled a bit after the break but eventually got back on level terms and a pointed free by Cathal McCrann was enough to see us back in the last eight for the third year in a row since returning to senior ranks. Well done to all involved and the draw will be made next weekend to find out who our next opponents will be.
Junior A:
Our second team drew 0-12 to 2-6 to Drumkeerin in the Junior A Championship in Fenagh on Sunday morning last. This draw means we are now in a playoff against Dromahair on Saturday evening next at 7pm in Drumshanbo. Team: Sean Bohan, Niall Mulvey, Seamus Prunty, James Heslin, Keoghan McGovern, Dermot Kennedy, Terry Kellegher, Padraig McGarry, Dylan Ward, Shane Sorohan, Gavin Mitchell, Patrick Kennedy, Conor Woods, Colm Duffy, Darren Clarke. Sub: Mark Kennedy.
Car Wash:
On Friday next the club is holding a car wash fundraiser at the club grounds from 5.30 p.m. to 9pm. All proceeds will go towards getting sports tops for our U12 and U14 teams. Your support would be much appreciated.
Sympathy:
The club would like to offer its sympathy to the family and friends of the late Tony O'Neill who died in Dublin recently. Tony and his wife Teresa ran The Welcome Inn for a number of years in the eighties. Tony was very popular and well-liked by all who knew him. Those of us who frequented The Welcome Inn in those years remembered Tony singing his rendition of "Raglan Road" with gusto and passion. This balladeering usually took place on nights when the club were celebrating success on the playing field. Tony's loss was felt by all in the area when he moved back to his beloved Dublin, he always remembered his years in Gortletteragh with fondness. May he Rest in Peace.
Baby Girl:
Congratulations to senior player Cathal Quinn and his wife Laura on the birth of their baby girl Mia Lillie, a sister for Jack who is making great strides with our under 10's.
U8& U10 blitz:
Our U8 and U10 players travelled to Fenagh last Saturday morning to where they took part in a blitz with the hosting club Fenagh and other visiting club Aughavas. We had a good turnout by both groups. Our U10 group held their own to draw with Fenagh while our U8 group weren't as successful, we found our Aughavas counterparts a little too strong for us in both groups. All said everyone had fun and enjoyed the outing on a very welcome dry morning.
Under 14's:
Our U14s continued on their winning ways when they defeated Carrigallen by 3-8 to 0-9 in the 11 a- side championship. They now have four wins out of five and if they win their last game versus St Brigids on 17th August they would be in with a great chance of reaching the final.
Minor Championship:
Fenagh-Gortletteragh minors got off to a good start in the first round of the Minor Championship last Wednesday evening with a five point win over St Manchans. After a fairly evenly contested first-half Fenagh-Gortletteragh got the better of their opponents in the second-half and emerged victorious on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-6. Our next game is away to St. Felim's this Wednesday, 12th August, please check fixtures for time and venue confirmation.
Longford Rose:
Best of luck goes to the Longford Rose of Tralee contestant Daphne Howard in the upcoming festival in Kerry. Daphne was down in Gortletteragh with her Uncle Tom (who is involved with our ladies team Management) during the week and she kindly posed for photos with both our ladies and men's teams. Check out Gortletteragh's GAA Facebook page for all the lovely photos taken by Declan Gaffney.
Golf Classic:
The club is holding a fundraising Golf Classic in Ballinamore Golf Club on Saturday 26th September. More details to follow.
