ADOPT A ROAD SCHEME 2015

We launched our Adopt a Road initiative scheme on Saturday last.  Many thanks to the volunteers who came along on Saturday and did a fantastic job.  This is an initiative being rolled out to all clubs  by Leitrim County Council.  The County   Council have kindly provided the club with all the necessary equipment to allow us do the job.  On Saturday morning a number of Council staff from the Environment section attended the launch.  Joseph Gilhooly, Director of Service from Leitrim County Council and Carmel Coll, Environmental Awareness Officer were on hand to explain how the scheme works and the benefit to both the Council and local Community.  The current Leitrim County Council Chairperson, Paddy O'Rourke  was also in attendance to lend his support to the initiative. We started off on Saturday with the roadside immediately adjacent to the GAA pitch.  We plan to have another Saturday morning clean up in two to three weeks time.  We hope to expand both the numbers involved and the stretch of road covered.  April is designated as National Spring clean month.  As such we would encourage all people in the community to get involved in the scheme which can transform our highways and byways.  To this end any person who wants some help in their area please contact the club.  We can assist with the necessary equipment and have a mechanism in place to dispose of any roadside rubbish collected in your area.  Contact Finbarr Keaney on 086-8196535 for further information.
