Dromard Club Notes for issue dated Friday 20th March 2015

Lotto:  Lotto Results for Monday the 9th of March 2015. The numbers drawn were 8, 10, 11, and  22.  There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the €20 draw were; Francis Grey, Fiona and John ( C/O:  Corrigan's), Alison Jobe and  Ella McStay Kelly.  The seller's prize was won by Gerry Mimnagh.

Dromard U14: St. Francis U14 Team hosted a Feile group stage on Saturday morning last, with St Francis, Wolf Tones and Northern Gales in the group, well refereed by Enda Murphy. Wolf Tones were the best team on the day and forward to the playoffs. St Francis were well represented by Ollie Duffy, Fionn Hourican, Liam Donohoe, Gareth O'Hara, Ciaran Murphy, Karl McNerney, Cian Gray, Conor McGarahan, Shane Grimes, Conor Sheirdan, Stephen Donohoe, Jason Grimes, Joshua Gray, Conal Palin, Danial Conboy, Ryan O'Connor, Oisin O'Toole, James Brady, Matt Duffy, Jamie Conboy and Aaron Darcy(injured). A special word of thanks to the Minor club and volunteers who had food ready for all teams and supporters on a cold Saturday morning. Much appreciated by everyone.

Minor/U18 Amalgamation St. Francis/St. Vincents: The Saints took on Longford Slashers on Sunday morning at 12pm in Slashers. This was their first game of the season and in the first half is was obvious that many of the players were not used of playing together. Slashers raced into an 11 point lead after 25 minutes, despite some excellent defensive performance of Leon McKeon, Brad Byrne and Tom McGee. Indeed the excellent Saints goalkeeper Oisin Hourican made a number of top drawer saves to keep the shoreline down. The St.Francis/St.Vincents moved around a number of players and the positioning of Peader Kiernan at corner forward began to cause confusion in the Slashers backline. His fellow full forward Brian McGee hit the back of the net with two excellent worked goals began to peg back the Slashers lead. Halftime score was Longford Slashers 0-12 to St.Francis/St.Vincents 2-0. The second half started off as in the same pace as the last few minutes of the first half with Brian McGee hitting the back of the net again, followed by points from Paul Donnolly, Aaron McGee and Brian McGee. Peader Kiernan then went past a number of players before calmly hitting the back of the net to put the Saints into a two point lead. Again Brian McGee scored an excellent point from an impossible angle to put the pressure back on Slashers. In fairness to the home team the came back to draw the game, mainly through the excellent Nathan Steel. Final score St.Francis/St.Vincents 4-06 to Longford Slashers 1-15. A special word for the excellent Referee Gerry Carberry on letting the game flow and explaining decisions to players. County Seniors: Well done to Longford on a great win over Wicklow in the national league game played in Aughrim on Sunday last. The Dromard trio played a large part in this success which puts Longford on the top of the Table. Francis McGee is proving to be not only the main playmaker on the team but for the second week in a row was the top scorer with six of the best, while his wing man Ronan McIntire was the scorer of the only Longford goal on the day after taking a pass from Paul McKeon outside the 45metre line and driving forward to plant the ball in the Wicklow net with just the second attack of the day. Once again Dairmuid Masterson was instrumental in defence at no 6 and especially in the second half when Wicklow were piling on the pressure; Dan came to the rescue on numerous occasions. Well done to all. Longford now have a break until the 29th of March when the take on joint table-toppers Offaly in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park

County U21 Football:  Good luck to the Longford U21 team who play in the Leinster Semi-Final against reigning Leinster and All Ireland champions Dublin, tonight, Wednesday, the 18th, in Páirc Tailteann, Navan, at 7.30pm. We wish Ross, his team mates and management the best of luck. No doubt large numbers will travel and will be cautiously optimistic that this talented Longford team have a good chance of reaching a Leinster Final at the expense of the illustrious counterparts.

Senior League Div. 1: Dromard Senior Team open their 2015 season when they begin their defence of the Division 1 League Title which they won in 2014, against Carrickedmond in Pairc NaGeal at 5pm this Saturday the 22nd.

Division 3 League: The Dromard second string plays their first game of the new season this Sunday the 22nd, away to Killoe in Emmet Park at 2pm.   Dromard, under Con McLoughlin, had a very good run in this competition last year, and just came up one point short in the table which would have qualified them for the knock out stages. As always, the first game in any competition sets the tone, so it is vitally important to have a full turn out on Saturday.

Ladies away to Mullinaughta, time TBC.   Monday, 23rd: U14 Football Development Squad Trials. Cumann na mBunscol Girls Championships Divisions 1-4.  Code of Ethics Course @6:45pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.  Wednesday, 25th: Gaelic 15 Injury Prevention Warm Up in St. Mels College @ 7:30pm.  Thursday, 26th: Cumann na mBunscol Mixed Championships Divisions 1-5 Rd.  Referee In service on the Black Card @8pm in Aras Uí Bhriain.  Sturday, 28th:  Reserve League 1,  Páirc na nGael: Dromard V Mostrim 5pm.

County Development Squads:  Details of squad sessions can be found at: www.longfordgaa.ie under Coaching, including dates for the county U14 trials (21st, 23rd and 28th March). The first of these trials takes place this Saturday the 21st and Dromard players born in 2001 and interested in taking part should be in Clonguish GAA grounds by 9:15am with the trial finished at 11am. There are also details of an U13 Skills School.

Code of Ethics Course on the 23rd of March:  Longford GAA are holding a Code of Ethics course on Monday the 23rd of March in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park at 6:45. The Dromard club have 7 members enrolled on the course namely Peter Darcy, Dermot Reilly, Niall Vance, Paul McGee, Peggy Kiernan, Paul Hourican & Joe Murphy. Every person who deals with kids within a GAA setting needs to do this course. This is the last course that will be run this year and costs €10 which is payable on the night and only those on the list can attend.

Gaelic 15 Injury Prevention Workshop On Wednesday 25th of March Longford GAA will be holding a workshop on Gaelic 15 which is a series of exercises that can be used to prevent injury in our players or as a standard warm up routine prior to training or matches. The exercises are broken into 6 key areas (running, strengthening, sport balance, jumps, hamstrings and sport specific activities). Places are free of charge for both workshops but must be booked by contacting Damien on 087 912 6556.

Lats week Longford GAA held a Resistance Training workshop for coaches of teenage players. The workshop dealth witn injury prevention,  mobility, speed and power. Exercises covered were for teenage players. Dromard were represented on the night by Peter Darcy and Paul Hourican.

Go Games Information Night on Wednesday 1/4/15 in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park at 7pm to agree fixtures for all U8 & U10 blitzes, to revise all information surrounding the roll out of the Go Games program, to get up to date information regarding the expanded U12 Longford Leitrim Mini League, to provide contact details and input into the running of the Go Games program for 2015.

U10 Blitz for National Respect Go Games Week. Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday 4/4/15 where each club will be invited to attend an U10 blitz. There will be 3 blitzes held starting at 2pm, 3:30pm and 5pm with a limited number of slots in each blitz so we are requested to pick which blitz we want to attend at the information night as outlined below.

Scheduling of Facilities: Anyone who is organising games, challenge matches, meetings, minor pitch, Astroturf pitch bookings, etc., please ensure that Thomas Donohoe (087 4134636) is notified and kept up-to-date at all times of any changes in order to avoid clashes.
