Gerry Bohan's Memory Lane
This is a report of an U-12 Town League in the Observer 1973, we quote: The town league final took place on Sat night last between John McGuinness's team and Padraig Mulligan's team and ended in a win for P Mulligan with with a score of 5-7 to 4-4. The winners were lead at half time 2-3 to 0-4 but staged a great comeback in the second half to emerge deserving winners. The winning side's Padraig Mulligan played a captain's part and got great assistance from Mel Foy who together with his brother Brendan and Peter Caroll picked off the vital scores. Padraig Mcloughlin had a star game in the defence while Nicholas McNabola made many fine saves between the posts. The loosers were best served by Gerry Duignan and the McGuinness brothers John and Paul. John Early and Joe Joe Dorr tried hard while Pascal McKeon could not be faulted for the shots that beat him. The Cup and medals were presented to Padraig Mulligan and his team mates after the game by Mr Eamonn Duignan Chairman of the Mohill Club. All repaired to "Pauls" where the cup was filled and refilled amid wild scenes of delight. The loosers received a plastic ball each, which was some consolation for their part in a very sporting and entertaining game. Anthony Canning was the organiser of the League and the late Gerry Keegan trained the teams.
