Gallogly Catering ACL Division 3

Commiserations to our ACL Division 3 team who were narrowly defeated on Sunday in a cracking match that had it all. The match was played at a frenetic pace with both teams going all out for victory. It's scant reward for our lads to know that they took part in one of the most exciting matches that has been played in Pairc Sean for a long time, but they should take some solace in the fact that they pushed Gortletteragh all the way and served up a very exciting match for both sets of supporters.
SOH started the match brightly with Peter Reynolds knocking over a free after 3 mins to give Ballinamore the opening score. The Ballinamore lads were playing into the winter sun and this did cause difficulties under some high balls which were pumped in from midfield. Gortletteragh started to exert some pressure and quickly added two well taken scores to give them the lead in the seventh minute. SOH had a couple of further chances to add to their tally with Peter Reynolds dropping a good effort just short. SOH's did not have long to wait to add to their tally with a well worked goal taken by the impressive Brian Beirne who palmed the ball into the net to give SOH the lead in the 18th minute. Brian Leydon then added another impressive point to leave SOH leading by 1:03 to 0:02. Gortletteragh continued to play well and reduced the deficit with a well taken free and then powered a shot against the post with the rebound knocked in to the SOH goal on 21 minutes to leave the game level. Both teams were producing some great football and Brian Beirne added a further point to give SOH the lead again after a good run and pass from Peter Reynolds on 23. Brian Leydon had a chance to extend the lead further but his shot went just wide with Gortletteragh going straight down the pitch to add a point of their own and leave the match level. Gortletteragh soon had another point with a free and then added another from play to leave them going in at half time leading by 2.
The second half started in much the same way as the first with the ball travelling from end to end, first with Gortletteragh shooting wide and then Peter Reynolds cut the deficit to a point on 33. Gortletteragh responded well and added another good point of their own to leave their lead back to two points. SOH had a further chance with Luke Murphy shooting wide before Brian Beirne again added another well taken point to leave SOH trailing by one. SOH had another chance to draw level with Peter Reynolds shooting wide on 39 before Anthony McTague powered forward on a good run to draw SOH level on 42 with both teams on 1:07. SOH had a further free on 45 with Luke Murphy's well taken effort just dropping short, with Gortletteragh heading straight down the pitch to take a chance of their own and restore their lead. Gortletteragh quickly added a further point on 48 to give them a two point cushion with the scores 1:07 to 1:09. SOH quickly pulled a point back with the impressive Brian Beirne again gathering a high ball and laying off to Luke Murphy to point for SOH. Peter Reynolds then quickly added a further point from a free to again draw the match level on 49. SOH had a further chance to take the lead with a wide before Gortletteragh added a point of their own to take the lead.
Gortletteragh added a another point to restore their two point cushion before their keeper made an impressive save to deny Peter Reynolds a certain goal. Luke Murphy quickly added a point and the deficit was again cut to one. SOH 1:10 Gort 1:11
SOH were powering forward looking for the equaliser which arrived from the boot of Donal Feeley two minutes into stoppage time to send the SOH fans wild and ensure extra time.
Gortletteragh started extra time the brighter and kicked two wides before adding a well taken goal. SOH continued to move the ball forward at every opportunity and Luke Murphy cut the deficit to two points Gortletteragh added a further point to leave the scores on SOH 1:12 to 2:12 before Ryan Gavin added an excellent point after a powerful run. Gortletteragh were then awarded an innocuous penalty which they placed over the bar to again leave their lead at 3 points with them adding a further point to leave them leading by 4 with the first half of extra time ending. The second half of extra time started brightly for SOH with Brian Beirne and Ryan Gavin quickly adding two well taken scores to cut the deficit to two points before Gortletteragh added two points of their own, To leave the lead at 4 with only six minutes left. SOH continued to power forward looking for scores with the SOH fans on their feet and it was Brian Beirne who gave them hope when with a minute left he shot into the Gortletteragh net to reduce the deficit to a point. SOH continued to press forward and were denied a goal after an impressive save from the Gortletteragh goalie in stoppage time.

The match was over and Gortletteragh claimed the cup by a score of 2:16 to 2:15.
On behalf of Sean O'Heslins and I am sure both sets of fans we would like to congratulate both sets of players for serving up a very exciting and well played final and I am sure we all look forward to a further meeting in division two next season.
