Aughawillan club notes

October 22, 2014

Connacht Senior Club Championship:
No club from Leitrim has ever won the Connacht Club Football Championship…..
Leitrim, last featured in the Final of the Connacht Club in 1997….
It is 20 years, since Aughawillan last played in the Connacht Club…
The past is a statement of facts, but it is the future, that can make our blood pressure rise, our hearts thump, our eyes widen, that can catch ones breath, just for that single moment… Optimism, belief, confidence, positivity, conviction, faith, why not? Aughawillan defied the odds of 60 to 1, displayed their spirit and determination and beat St Marys the reigning champions of the Senior Championship Title in Leitrim and brought home a victory when few thought it possible.
Aughawillan is a team of young men, their average age only 21 years of age and yet with fire in their blood, a desire in their heart, they see, they need to make the most of the opportunity in front of them right now, to grab their chance next Sunday with both hands!
Youth is one of the strongest elements of the Aughawillan team, optimism and self-belief impressed upon their minds, dexterity, maturity, confidence. These players believe in themselves, their team and their leaders, they believe and trust that in every game, they have the ability to win and must fight until the very end.
Noel Plunkett, Team Captain said: "Most people wouldn't consider Aughawillan for Connacht, but then they didn't expect us to win the Championship!! It is up to us to go out next Sunday and prove we are worthy opponents. There is a positive attitude amongst the team and I believe attitude is half way to winning"
A small rural club, against all odds, in a big competition, we would appeal for support from all Leitrim clubs in going forward to win this game and proceeding further in the competition. We look forward to seeing you all in Markievicz Park as we take on Sligo Champions, Tubbercurry on October the 26th, at 2 O'Clock. Achadh Mhaolain Abú!! Leitrim Abú!!

Ocean FM Ireland have confirmed they will be broadcasting live our Connacht Club match on the 26th October at 2pm. This is great news for our supporters who can't make it on the day and those abroad. Achadh Mhaolain Abú!!
