Ballinamore club notes

October 21, 2014

Congratulations
Huge congratulations to the Sean O'Heslin's Minor Girls team on winning this years' Supermacs Minor Under 18 Championship. The girls have played some exceptional football and topped the overall group during the opening phase. They have played with a great deal of skill with some great finishing. This years' final saw them take on St Joseph's whom they had defeated last July in one of their group games by 2 points.

The match was played in extremely difficult conditions in Aughnasheelin on Saturday gone. The SOH girls were playing with the wind in the opening half and they used this to their advantage taking some excellent scores and running in at half time leading by 5-1 to 2-3.

SOH opened the second half in fine form despite playing against the wind and they quickly added to their score. There were some excellent goals scored throughout the game but special mention must go to Leighanne Flynn who scored a cracker to add to an impressive individual scoring total of 3-2. The SOH girls proved too strong for a spirited St Joseph's team who could only manage 3 points in the second half despite playing with the wind. SOH ran out eventual winners by a score of 8-6 to 2-6. All that was left was for team captains Ellen Wrynn and Aoibheann Flynn to lift the trophy for Sean O'Heslins.

Everyone at the club would like to thank the Sean O'Heslin's girls and their Bainisteori Seán Reynolds and Laura O'Dowd for the commitment they have shown throughout this Championship season. It was great to see another trophy paraded through Ballinamore on Saturday and great to see the crowds coming out to clap the winners. Special thanks to Gay Prior and staff for the hospitality that they showed the team on Saturday night.

Team: Lisa Maguire, Roisin McHugh (1-1), Ellen Wrynn, Cáit Connaughton, Aoibheann Flynn (0-2), Eilish O'Dowd (1-0), Emma McGovern (3-0), Leighanne Flynn (3-2), Grace Wrynn (0-1). Iondai: Aoife McCartin, Rachel Creamer, Shaneen McGovern, Ciara McGoldrick, Leah Mullaney.
