Gortletteragh GAA club notes

October 14, 2014

Under 12's:
Saturday last was a great day for the club with two big fixtures and we came through both with flying colours.   First up was our U- 12 boys who took home the silverware in a pulsating 13 a side final against Mohill on Saturday afternoon.  The lads have made tremendous progress throughout the year and the team effort shown on the day was testament to the hard work they have put in.  Credit must go to Mohill as well for being fantastic opponents and battling right to the final whistle.  Gortletteragh started the game well and 5 goals in the first half had us in a strong position, despite Mohill finishing the first half well.  The second half the lads absorbed serious pressure from a Mohill team in search of scores and tagged on a few more to ensure the win.  The team received a huge welcome back to the Community Centre with Declan Gaffney on hand capturing the moment on film, huge thanks also to Gavin Mitchell who put up a feast for the team afterwards.  The team who brought home the silverware was Cian O'Leary, Brendan Naughton, Conor Niblock, Tom Crowe, Mark Reynolds, Kieran Reen, Ryan Cunningham, James Cunningham, Tom Reel (Captain), Ciaran Reynolds, Brendan Davis, Daire Heslin, Cian McNulty, Sean Og Hynes, Odhran Heslin, Shane Mulligan, Cillian McAuley and Nathan Ward.  Their mentors for the year were Sean Hynes, Mark Heslin and Darren Mulvey.  Well done again to the lads and we look forward to presenting you with your medals in a few weeks' time.

On Saturday evening our Seniors headed down to Aughawillan to take on the newly crowned County Championship winners Aughawillan in their last game of the year.  We needed a win to ensure our place in Division 1 next year so our lads put on their best performance of the year to run out winners by 2-8 to 0-11.  Every Gortletteragh player from 17 year old Jack Heslin right up to 35 year old Seamus Prunty was on song on the pitch.  Mark, Sean and Noel were pulling the strings on the sideline so nothing was going to stop us getting the win.  Team: Sean Bohan, Kevin McGrath, Colm Duffy, Mark Mitchell, Niall Duffy, Seamus Prunty, James Campbell, Niall Woods, Mark Duignan, Gerry Griffin, Cathal McCrann, Barry Tiernan, Jack Heslin, Cathal Quinn, Padraig Gallagher.  Subs:  Evan Ward for Gerry Griffin.  Such was the closeness of all the teams on the bottom half of the table that this win moved us all the way up to sixth place.  Sixth in the League and Quarter Finalists in the Championship was our lot for this year, let's hope we can build on that in 2015.

Hurlers:
On Sunday our Hurlers kept the good weekend going when they defeated Ballinamore by 2-9 to 1-11 in the Senior Championship Semi-Final in Ballinamore.  They face Leitrim hurling kingpins Carrick in the Final next weekend (check Fixtures for details).  Team: Tommy McLoughlin, Conor McCauley, Sean Costello, Sean Bohan, Ciaran Kilkenny, Cathal Keegan, Francie Flynn, Kevin McGrath, Cathal McCrann, Alan Armstrong, Mark Beirne, Dermot Kennedy, Darragh Gordon, Shane Sorohan, Jack Heslin.  Subs:  Alan McLoughlin, Evan Ward and Shane Conroy.  We wish the team and Management of Mickey Dorrigan and Shane Heslin all the best in the Final.

Division 3:
Next weekend our Division 3 team take on Carrigallen in Gortletteragh.  Once again as with our Seniors last weekend, nothing less than a win will do with a place in the League Final and promotion to Division 2 at stake.  This game is due to be played Sunday morning at 12 o'clock, however, check the fixtures as the Hurling Final may change this fixture.

Last Man Standing:
The club's last man standing fundraiser was jointly won by Shane Reynolds and his Dad Sean.  We hope to run another one in the next few weeks.
