Aughawillan club notes

October 13, 2014

Gallogly Catering ACL Division 1 Game: It was a warm welcome to the Aughawillan Senior panel as they stepped out on home ground on Saturday afternoon to play Drumreilly in the ACL Division 1 game, which could have seen them relegated. But fears were abated, when the lads took to the field with the maturity, honour and prestige of Senior County Champions. The first half saw Ciaran Gilheany score four points, while his brother Stephen kept it a family affair and scored 2 points. At half time the score line was Aughawillan 0-06 to Drumreilly 0-04.

Aughawillan charged from the dressing rooms and scored the first point of the second half but Drumreilly also facing relegation were quick to respond with a point. Heads down, Aughawillan added two more points to their scorecard, when Drumreilly were given a penalty. Tense moments were felt as the Drumreilly man lined up to score, but with Colin Maguire in fine form, he saved the penalty and cleared the ball not once but twice. Drumreilly were driven on and were successful in taking a point, but the Aughawillan men kept the cool and matched the point with another from Ciaran Gilheany. Gary Plunkett took and scored a point with excellent precision from a difficult vantage point, while Ryan Creamer was unlucky that a point was not his, but it was Ciaran Gilheany who scored the final point of the game leaving the final score line Aughawillan 0-12 to Drumreilly 0-06. We look forward to next Saturday's game against Gortlettragh. Achadh Mhaoilainn Abú!!
