Aughawillan club notes

September 24, 2014

Aughawillan GAA: It was a return to fondly remembered old times as the Leitrim Observer and Shannonside were in Aughawillan GAA Clubrooms on Friday evening to interview and photograph our mighty team as they move towards the Connacht Gold Senior Championship Final. Excitement and anticipation were evident on the faces of young and old as family members and supporters came down to support the lads, and show their appreciation for the hard work these fine young men have put in this year. Many thanks to those in the club who worked hard all week, making sure the premises were spic and span, decorated to the highest degree and to the many bakers who produced a joyous feast fit for kings. We look forward to seeing you all at the match on Sunday at 3.30pm and hope that every house in the surrounding parishes will show their allegiance to Aughawillan on this fine occasion and fly a flag. Flags are available for purchase from Charlie Kelly and Pat Joe Mc Niff.

Shannonside: You can listen to our team Captain Noel Plunkett, Ciaran Gilheany , Gerard Mc Govern and Manager Sean Pierson being interviewed by the knowledgeable John Lynch of Shannonside on our Facebook page and website.

Fáilte go Achadh Mhaoilainn: It is a welcoming impression of Aughawillan Club to see that although a Senior Championship is in the mix, work on the ground is ongoing to ensure our club is kept updated and modernised. Many thanks to Damien Bohan who donated a flag stone to the club, Martin Flanagan who did some fine stone work beneath the new sign and to Smith Monumental's for inscribing the stonework so elegantly. Thanks also to Packie Maguire and Cathal Mc Tague for putting in the foundation. We hope you will all appreciate this well-designed addition to our grounds by Smith Monuments and Club Chairman Paul Bohan.

Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship "Up for the Match". The inimitable Tommy Moran was rousing and stimulating in the chair of interviewer for the Leitrim GAA "Up for the Match" style programme in the Bush Hotel Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday night. Featuring interviews with the Pat Flanagan, Damien Gilheany, Des Quinn, Paul Bohan (Chairman), Patjoe Mc Niff and Jerome Quinn, we were all inspired with a reeling in the years style programme which saw old stories recounted and promising talk of future success. Never a man to see an opportunity pass Tommy was delighted to see Brian Dolan bring the beautiful Michelle to the show albeit nearing the half time, it was then the turn of the ladies as Michelle Dolan, Marie Quinn and Annette Gilheany were put in the hot seats with questions of their sons accomplishments and where directly these traits came from!! A final panel saw Tommy invite Sinead Quinn, Leitrim Ladies Chairperson, Tracy Mc Tague, Aughawillan PRO and Brian Stringer Youth representative take centre stage in a night of revelry. Excerpts of this festive night will be available shortly for all to view.
Liam Gormley Cup: Our U8 & 10 teams will play in a blitz on Saturday in Aughawillan grounds at 3.30pm for the Liam Gormley Cup. All refreshments greatly received for this final get together of football for the year in this u8/10 age group.

Aughawillan / Drumreilly Lotto: Next draw in Reynolds, Ballinamore on Wednesday, 24 September 2014. Jackpot €2,700. Thank you to all that support Club Lotto.

Another sort of Luck: Clubman Mickey Flanagan has Pick a Winner on display in many of our local establishments. Why not try your luck and purchase a square in Lawerences, Feehans, Ballymac Inn, Gorbys or Reynolds. The winner will have twice the reason to celebrate on the 28th of September!

U16 Championship: St Brigids played Annaduff in Annaduff on Friday evening last. There was a great start to the game, and on our opponents home turf no less, with the half time score seeing St Brigids lead by a six point lead. The Annaduff team came out with vengenance on their minds in the second half and went on to narrowly beat St Brigids 3-07 to Annaduff 2-14. Well done to Management and the team for a fine display of football, and we look forward to seeing this team grow further from these fine mentors. Round 3 of the Championship will see St. Brigids play Carrigallen at home this week and we wish the lads the very best of luck.

Congratulations: Warm congratulations to Majella Maguire, Corraleehan who got married last week to Pearce Williams in Rhodes, Greece.

Aughawillan Facebook: So much to appreciate and look forward to in the coming week, take a look at some recent photographs of our celebrations in the clubrooms, why not see if you can pick out an old face or a new one, or listen to our team captain, players and management as they were interviewed by Shannonside. Further meriment's can be seen in the shapes of two wonderfully painted cars. But we want more!!We want to see your flags, banners, painted gates, cars, houses and other significant celebrations on our site, so don't be shy and show us how proud you are to be associated with Aughawillan GAA.
