Congratulations and well done to the Junior A team and management who has a fantastic win in the championship semi final over near neighbours, Allen Gaels. With a Kiltubrid team comprising of energetic youth and solid experience, this certainly lived up to be a game of two contrasting halves. Allegedly the combined age of the Kiltubrid midfield pairing was almost 80.
With ideal playing conditions in Cloone, a large contingent of both Kiltubrid and Drumshanbo supporters witnessed a thrilling if somewhat physical contest.
Kitubrid conceded two early goals that put the Gaels in the driving seat. By half time Allen Gaels looked to be home and hosed and went in to the break leading by 8 points on a score-line of 2-5 to 0-3. A Kiltubrid win looked near impossible and most of the talk in the stand was how much would be in it at full time.
However in a dramatic second half we managed to claw our way back into the game. We managed to park the bus and shut up shop and prevented Allen Gaels from registering any score in the second half. Slowly we tagged on a few points to reduce the deficit to five. Michael Mc Cormack seized a great individual opportunity and made Allen Gaels a wee bit nervous when he crashed home a goal late on to reduce the arrears to 2 points. With Allen Gaels somewhat stunned by the first Kiltubrid goal, Aidan Mc Kiernan then piled on further pressure, with a second goal on 28 minutes. This put Kiltubrid into a narrow one point lead. With the bus still well parked, we defended this slim lead and clung on for the remaining few minutes. The final whistle was welcomed loudly by the Kiltubrid players and supporters thus securing our place in the county final. As yet we don't know who our opposition will be in the final. We must wait for the outcome of a replay in the second semi-final, as St Marys & St Patricks/Dromahair ended level in their semi-final played in our pitch in Kiltubrid on Friday night.
The under 16 lost away to Gortletteragh on Thursday evening last in the opening round of the Championship. We are scheduled to play Drumkeernan at home in round 2 this Thursday at 7pm in Kiltubrid.
The under 12 team play away to Leitrim Gaels at 7 pm this Monday evening, September 15th and also play away to Melvin Gaels in Kinlough next Monday 22nd September at 7 pm.
Painting at the Park
With the recent spell of good weather, Kevin Nealon is doing a fine job painting at the park with the paint won by the Kiltubrid Ladies in the recent Dulux competition. Hopefully the good weather remains and the job can be completed during this fine spell. Many thanks', Kevin for your hard work and effort.
Hopefully all players, young and not so young, will remember not to spoil this fine work by kicking a mucky ball or boot at the newly painted walls.
Minor Championship Final
The minor championship final versus Melvin Gaels will take place on Sunday 5th October 2014 in Pairc Sean Mac Diarmuda. This game will be the curtain raiser to the Intermediate semi-final. We are presently getting some gear for the panel for the final. Any individual or company who would like to sponsor the team in any way please contact any club officer.
Sympathy
Kiltubrid GAA would like to express its sincere sympathy to club player David Mc Cormack, to Edel Mc Cormack and family on the recent death of their mother and grandmother, Mae Kellegher, Ballinamore. May she rest in peace.
