Comhbhrón

Everyone at Sean O'Heslin's would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Aisling Cooke, New Jersey, who passed away on the 2nd of September 2014 following a tragic road accident at the tender age of 15. Aisling is the daughter of Hugh and Deirdre Cooke (Murray), New Jersey (Carrigallen) and the grandaughter of Pat and Pidgie Murray, Sunnyside Queens (Killaneen and Aughnasheelin). Aisling was known throughout the New York/New Jersey areas for her sporting prowess in Gaelic Football, Basketball, Soccer and Baseball and it was on her way home from a charity football game with her team that she received her injuries that eventually proved fatal. Aisling's passing has caused immense grief to everyone that knew her or her family both in the States and here in Leitrim. Aisling and her family were great supporters of Leitrim GAA and Sean O'Heslin's with whom her grandfather Pat Murray won a Championship medal in 1956. We ask everyone at the club to take a moment to think of Aisling and her family and friends at this diifficult time. Go ndéana Dia trócaire uirthi.

Three Championship Final places secured
In an exciting week for the SOH club, our Intermediates, Minors and Ladies all secured final places in their respective championships. Massive well done to all the players, management and supporters who have assisted in making this a memorable week for the club. Hopefully over the coming weeks, the 3 teams can add to their already great success and bring the 3 championship trophies home.

Intermediate Championship Semi Final
Well done to the intermediate team who fought for every minutes of Saturday's match, they left everything on the pitch and were deserved winners in the championship semi final.
SOH started the brighter team and were awarded a free out on the left after one minute of play, which was kicked just short of the bar, we did not have to wait much longer for the first score and Peter Reynolds duly obliged when he placed an excellent free over the bar in the 2nd minute, this was quickly followed by a long range effort from Wayne McKeon to give SOH a 2 point lead. SOH did not have it all their own way and two quick points by Ballinaglera evened up the score at 0:2 to 0:2 after six minutes of play. SOH hit a couple of further wides before Andrew Beirne scored an excellent point followed by a Luke Murphy effort to leave SOH leading by 0:5 to 0:2 after 15 mins. Peter Reynolds quickly added another free on 17 to leave SOH in control with a score of 0:6 to 0:2, Phillip Farrely then saw action in the SOH goal with an excellent save pushing the ball high and wide denying Ballinaglera a goal and possibly a point. Luke Murphy added further points after a point by Ballinaglera to leave the match on 0:8 to 0:3. Ballinaglera added a further free followed by an excellent attempt from Peter Reynolds which went just wide. This was the last action of the first half and SOH went in leading by 0:8 to 0:4. SOH looked in control in the first half and were contesting every ball in a high tempo match. SOH did kick 7 wides and thankfully these did not seem too costly at this stage of the match. The second half started with SOH playing into the scoreboard end with Andrew Beirne who had an excellent first half being replaced by James McWeeney. Ballinaglera started the second half brightly shooting over two points while SOH kicked three wides, leaving the match on 0:8 to 0:6. In the eighth minute of the second half James McWeeney scored a good point to extend the lead. Ballinaglera quickly hit back with a point of their own before, on 16 minutes, Mark McGrory scored another well taken point this was followed quickly by another good point from McWeeney and a point to Ballinaglera to leave the scores at 0:11 to 0:8. Ballinaglera were continuing to play well and attempting to cut the deficit but shot a couple of good scoring chances wide, this was followed by a couple more wides for SOH. You could sense some nerves from the SOH supporters as Ballinaglera dropped a couple of long balls into the Ballinamore square which were well defended and cleared with Ballinaglera finishing strongly, the scores were still 0:11 to 0:8 with Ballinaglera putting on the pressure when SOH were awarded a free which Wayne McKeon dispatched over the bar in the 28th minute to calm the nerves of the Ballinamore fans in the ground and less than a minute later Peter Reynolds brought the SOH fans to their feet when he drove the ball low and hard in to the Ballinaglera goal to make the victory certain and leave Ballinamore winning by 1:12 to 0:8 points. SOH Abu !!!.
