Late Vinnie McKeon

The Leitrim sporting community was in mourning last weekend following the news of the passing of Vincent (Vinnie) McKeon, Soxline, Dromahair.
Best known in recent years for his role with the Sean McDermott Boxing Club in Manorhamilton, Vinnie's sporting prowess also saw him represent Leitrim at both hurling and football while he was also known for his keen interest in the equine world.
As a footballer, Vinnie played at full-forward when Dromahair claimed the 1976 Junior championship and he also has the distinction of guiding Dromahair to their first ever county title when he guided the U-12 team to glory along with Josie Torsney in '76.

His inter-county football career flourished in the early to mid 1960's while upon his return from America he continued to represent Leitrim at hurling. Away from the world of Gaelic Games, Vinnie was well known for his work with the Manorhamilton based Sean McDermott Boxing Club. In his roles as coach, Chairman, MC and timekeeper, Vinnie always proved to be a very popular member of the club. He also spent a period of time as the Leitrim/Roscommon Boxing Board Chairman.

Vinnie was laid to rest in Creevelea Abbey, Dromahair yesterday (Tuesday) following Mass of the Resurrection in St. Brigid's Church, Killargue.
