Leitrim looking for new backers

November 19, 2009
Leitrim are in the market for a new sponsor following Masonite Ireland's decision to end their association with the county after 11 years. The company, which employs 240 people at its Carrick-on-Shannon plant where it manufactures door skins for the Irish and export markets, has sponsored all Leitrim teams and the county senior football championship since 1999. The company opened its Drumsna plant in 1997 on a 150-acre site and Leitrim chairman Gerry McGovern acknowledged their contribution over the years. "It's been a great sponsorship. I want to pay tribute to Masonite for their superb support for the GAA in Leitrim over the past 11 years," he said in the Irish Examiner. Masonite Ireland managing director Cormac Kearns said the firm's association with Leitrim GAA has been mutually beneficial and rewarding. The search will now begin for a new sponsor for Mickey Moran and John Morrison's team and McGovern is hopeful they will have a new sponsor in place soon. He said: "These are difficult times but we are confident of having someone in place by the start of the league."
