August 12, 2020

Club Notes 9th August 2020.

Best Wishes:

The club extend best wishes to Leitrim County Games and Development Administrator, Sean Gallagher as he pursues his school teaching career next month. We thank Sean for his support and encouragement over the last couple of years and wish him all the best in the future.

Another busy weekend of football for the club with three games at different levels.

Intermediates:

Our intermediate team hosted Carrigallen in round four of the Smith Monumentals Intermediate Championship. With a few changes to our starting line-out we conceded two unreplied points within five minutes of throw-in. However with a couple of points over the bar and a ball in the back of the net inside the first quarter we were settled into the game. We continued to show our strength over the opposition for the remainder of the half and found ourselves with a lead of 2-09 to 0-03 at the half-time whistle. We maintained our lead throughout the second half despite long spells of play without scoring whilst Carrigallen clocked up ten points to our six in the latter half. We recorded our third win of the championship with a final score of 2-15 to 0-13. Well done to the team and management. We travel to Annaduff for the final round of the group stages next Saturday, 15th August at 7pm.

U17’s:

Our U17s were defeated by Carrigallen on Monday evening, 3rd August in the third round of the Newtowngore Engineering Championship. Carrigallen opened the scoring with a goal in the first two minutes of the game but we reacted well and with two goals of our own we finished the first half just two points down with a score line of 2-7 to 2-5. The game continued to be played at a fast pace with some excellent scores from both sides. We were unlucky to have hit the post and the cross bar on four different occasions missing crucial goal chances. The full time score was 3-13 to 2-9. This group had a home fixture on Monday 10th August against Annaduff – report next week.  Their next game is also a home game against St Brigid’s on Monday next 17th August.

U13’s:

Rinn Gaels travelled to Carrigallen last Friday evening to play St Joseph’s. They met with a very much stronger side but gave it their all and put a great score on the board despite the odds being against them. We have to admire the spirit of this team who never gave up and fought right to the final whistle. Final score 3-13 to 1-09. Next outing for these young lads is Friday, 21st August against St Mary’s. We will update on fixture details next week.

U15’s:

U15’s play round three of the Westlink Coaches Championship this Friday 14th August against St Brigid’s in Drumreilly at 7pm.

Junior A:

Our Junior’s play their second game of the Vistamed Championship next Sunday 16th August, at home against Carrigallen at 1.30pm.
