Gortletteragh club notes

August 07, 2020

It was busy weekend of football for the club with four games across all levels.

Intermediates:

Our Intermediate team travelled to Ballinamore on Saturday evening to meet Kiltubrid in the third round of the championship. On a very wet evening the game started fairly evenly with mirrored scores. However as the initial half progressed we gained strength on the scoreboard and had a lead of four points at half-time. Albeit slow to start we gained momentum in the second half and maintained the lead throughout and despite a late goal for Kiltubrid we recorded the win on a final score of 0-16 to 1-07. Well done to the team and management. Next outing is next Saturday in the park against Carrigallen, throw-in currently scheduled for 7pm.

Junior A:

Our Junior team made the short journey to Cloone last Sunday to begin their championship campaign against Cloone.  On a showery afternoon we found ourselves up against a much stronger opposition and despite our best efforts we were unable overcome their strength and pace. Final score was 2-15 to 0-05. Next game is fixtured for Sunday 16th August, at home to Carrigallen.

U17’s:

Our U17’s were in action again on Monday 27th July in the second round of the Newtowngore Engineering Championship. The team overcame Fenagh with a score of 2-14 to 3-6. After conceding a penalty in the 2nd minute, we recovered well and dominated the first half but Fenagh came back to leave only two points between the teams at half time. There was some excellent scoring throughout the game and after a strong second half performance we held on to record the win. Well done to the team and management.

They travelled to Carrigallen last Monday, 3rd August to play St Joseph’s – report next week. Their next game is a home fixture on Monday 10th August against Annaduff at 7pm.

U15’s:

Our U15’s took on Fenagh last Friday evening in Bornacoola in our second championship outing. We started off very fast and ran up a comfortable lead at half-time, but Fenagh fought back in the second half to come within two points or us. We stuck at it and came away with the win on a scoreline of 4-01 to 1.07.

Their next game is a Friday 14th August against St Brigid’s in Drumreilly at 7pm.

U13’s:

Rinn Gaels Under 13's play next Friday, 7th August against St Joseph’s, please check fixtures for venue.
