Mohill club notes

February 17, 2020

Liam McGowan RIP

We extend deepest sympathy to Therese Foy on the death of her uncle Liam McGowan in England last week. Liam played hurling and football in his early days for Mohill and his family have played a big part in the history of the club since its inception. His grandfather William McGowan featured in the early days and his father Billy played in the forties and fifties. Liam’s brother Brendan won a championship with Mohill in 1971 and Liam himself was on the lineout of the first St Finnbar’s hurling team in 1964.  Ar Dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Underage

Storm Denis caused havoc with fixtures last weekend and all underage games were cancelled. The Under 13s travel to Kinlough on Saturday next to play Melvin Gaels at 12pm. The County U20 game was also cancelled and will be played sometime this weekend. Jordan Reynolds and Niall Keegan will be featuring on that team so we wish them luck.

Ireland Lights up

The national walk under lights continues for two more weeks on Mondays 7.30 -8.30pm and Wednesdays 7-8pm. It has been a great success with large numbers out every night. People can continue and are encouraged to walk individually around the park now at their own time. For insurance purposes they will be obliged to pay a small fee of €20 for the year.
