Rinn Gaels U13 B Champions
Our U13s headed to Leitrim Village last Friday evening to take on Dromahair in our U13 final on a very wet, rain soaked pitch. It seemed a shame that these two teams had to play their final in such conditions. Despite this the game started very good for us, we hit Dromahair tapping over five points from play and one from a free to leave us six points up. Dromahair hit back with a couple of goals and points and at half time the score was Rinn Gaels 0-09 Dromahair 2-02. While playing with a strong breeze on our backs in the first half, it seemed it would be a big ask to get the better of our opponents in the second half, but the lads started to keep wide and play the ball well. We kept possession - it was close for the first 10 minutes, but we started to open them up and we got a goal to leave us up by three points. At this stage we had taken full control in the backs and around the middle of the field and applied serious pressure up front with a long ball played in and lovely lay off, we hit for our second goal. We were now up by seven and Dromahair were chasing the game. We held out to win by 5 points - with the final score reading Rinn Gaels 2-13 Dromahair 2-08. We had some outstanding performances from our goalkeeper with quick kick outs and great saves, our full back line holding out any attacks, the halfbacks setting up attacks, the powerful running from our midfielders catching kick outs and setting up attacks. Our forwards taking their scores and setting up some more. Our subs coming off the bench and really adding to our team. These lads went unbeaten in the championship playing eight games in total, six games in their group and the semifinal and final. The effort and work rate from the lads all year has to be commended.
