Féile Sponsorship

We got our Féile tournament up and running last Wednesday evening in Gortletteragh with a very generous Frank Niblock Electrical Ltd sponsorship of Hoodie tops and a special Féile 2019 Jersey for all our Féile players. This was a huge help to our club and we thank Frank, Barbara and family for their kind sponsorship.

Park Clean Up / Enhancement

We started our park tidy up in the run up to Féile, and what a huge success this has been. We won't mention names at the risk of leaving anyone out, but so many people gave their time and helped out in any way they could and it is hugely appreciated. We received such a great response in every area, from the power washing, the initial prep work for painting, bringing the garbage to the dump, the general clean up, and our many many talented painters from the young to the old, and some who kept their gifted talents well hidden until they were called upon, with the hugely impressive hand drawings of our club crest on our club walls, you would feel it an honour to stand in our park. We can look at our club and be proud going forward for many many years to come. We couldn’t have imagined how all our Club came together as one, and we look forward to keeping this great spirit alive well into the future. Anyone wishing to volunteer to further enhance the appearance and general upkeep / minor improvements to the park can get in touch with any officer of the club.

Fantastic Féile Weekend.

We bowed out of the Féile U14 competition on Sunday in Pairc Naomh Mhuire, Carrick on Shannon.  We started off our 2 games on Friday evening in Annaduff. First up was Geraldine’s from Louth we lost out on a score line 1-05 to 2-08. Next up was Annaduff. We hit the ground running we played some superb football going in up at half time 1-06 to 0-01. Annaduff came storming back at us hitting us for 5 goals and a point we could only manage a point. Final score 1-07 to 5-02.

Saturday morning we played the team we were hosting, St Catherine’s from Mallow, Co. Cork.  We left our newly made friendships on the side for the game. After a very entertaining game we came out on top score 4-06 to 2-03.

We all the headed to Scarden in Sligo for our quarter finals. We were up against Castleconnor from Sligo. This was a much harder test for us but we always seemed in control of the game. Our older boys really stood up to the challenge and our younger boys were not far behind. With us only leading by 2 points and a lot of injury time being played with some great blocking and tenacious tackling we got the win to progress to a Shield  semifinal.

St Catherine’s and ourselves returned back to Gortletteragh Community Center for much needed food and refreshments followed great entertainment by The LooneyHoppers and games also. On Sunday morning we travelled to Pairc Naomh Mhuire Carrick on Shannon for our semi final versus Adare, Limerick. We were met with a very physical, well organized team but again our boys weren’t found wanting from our oldest to our youngest players. It was point for point, half time score Gortletteragh 0-04 Adare 0-03. Playing into a strong breeze in the second half we got it hard to get scores but we defended very well as we heading for full time it was 6 points apiece. With a lucky break Adare got a score and followed with another one to leave it 0-08 to 0-06 at the final whistle. This bunch of boys have to be  complimented on their determination, hard work and how they applied themselves this weekend, their families and club should be proud of them.  It’s definitely a weekend that the club and these players will never forget.

The lads came up second best against Aughawillan on Saturday evening, despite only going in a point down at the half. This evening they travel to take on St Mary's at 8pm and Ballinamore are the visitors to the Park on Saturday evening at 7.
