Mai Beirne RIP
The Club extend sincere sympaty to the family of Mai Beirne who passed away last week. Mai was interested in all sport but her great love was athletics and she did great work for the Mohill Athletic Club over the last 20yrs. Many great athletes have gone through her hands, including Eanna Madden, Alannah McGuinness all her own children Dearbhaille, Michelle, Keith, Jonathan and many more. She was a proud mother when Michael her husband and children won “Irelands Fittest Family” indeed the whole town was in awe of their achievement. All Mai’s children are dedicated players to Mohill GAA and will keep Mai’s legacy alive for years to come. May she rest in peace. Air dheis Dé go raibh sí
Féile Peil na nÓg
Next weekend will be very busy all over Leitrim with teams of boys and girls from all over Ireland taking part in the U14 Féile Peil. Mohill is hosting girls from Two-Mile-House in Co Kildare and boys from Aughrim in Co Wicklow. These children are all staying with families in the area and there will be plenty of games and entertainment over the long weekend. The first game will be played in Ballinamore V JK Brackens and on Saturday they play our visitors from Aughrim at 7pm in Pairc Philib.
County game
Clare proved very strong for Leitrim on Sat last but they battled to the end. The Management and panel had a good run this year with promotion to Div3 vital. The supporters can’t complain as they had their big day out in Croke Park in March. All in all it was a good year, the team is young so the future looks good.
County Hurlers
Congratulations to the County hurlers who won the Lory Meagher Cup in Croke Park on Saturday last. The captain acknowledged the great work our talented Physio Lucia Tyrell has given to the team. Well done Leitrim and Lucia.
U 12 Cross County League
The Under 12s had two games last week. They played Rynn Gaels on Thursday but The Gaels were winners in the end. Our scorers were J Macklin 0-7, F McManus 0-2, R Walpole 0-2, S Mayock 0-1. Mac Diarmada Gaels were also very strong and were worthy winners on Friday evening. They play Clonbroney Co Longford on Thursday next probably in Mohill.
Alannah McGuinness
Congratulations are in order again this week to our emerging star Alannah who has made the U20 Irish relay team. A great achievement for a 17yr old.
