Leitrim captain Michael McWeeney is adamant that they will not be taking their ‘foot off the pedal’ when they take on Derry on Saturday afternoon.

With both sides already through to the FL4 final in a couple of weeks, they could be forgiven for refusing to show their hand this weekend.

Celtic Park is the venue for this top of the table clash and McWeeney told the Leitrim Observer that they would be foolish to ease off on their intensity with a final coming up, regardless of who the opposition is.

“We’ve got two more steps (in the league) first; step six is Derry and it is just another game,” states McWeeney.

“Obviously we are playing them in a national league final and obviously we want to go out and win it, we’re not taking our foot off the pedal either. It is up to management, but I’d be happy to keep going, there is no point in taking the foot off the pedal now.

“Everyone now knows opposition teams inside out so there is no point in easing up. We’re training awful hard. Obviously winning brings success but the training is hard, everyone is pushing each other on there is nowhere to hide.”
