New Leitrim manager Terry Hyland has stressed that promotion to Division 4 in the NFL will be their main priority.

The Cavan native takes over from Brendan Guckian who stepped down from the position after being told he would have to re-interview for the job.

Hyland stressed to the Leitrim Observer that promotion has to be their target, but added that it may take some time for the side to be into his philosophy.

Hyland said: "At the end of the day, the first target has to be to get out of Division 4. If we can get out of Division 4 and see where it brings us.

"Whether that is going to happen this year, I'm not too sure where we can go in year one but certainly in year two, with the structures, I would see us getting out of Division 4."
