Former Leitrim manager Brendan Guckian believes that the county board should go for a 'high profile appointment' in their search for his successor.
Guckian had been putting plans in place for the 2019 campaign when he was informed that he would have to re-interview for the position and upon reflection, he opted not to let his name go forward again.
His resignation came as a surprise after he had guided the county to a rare All-Ireland SFC qualifier win, while they also earned a lot of plaudits for their performance against Monaghan.
However, the search now begins for a new manager and Guckian told the Leitrim Observer that they need to aim high in order to help the county to the next level.
Guckian said: "It is important that the county board get a high calibre manager in because I think people are now beginning to realise that there is talent within Leitrim."
