It was out with the old, in with the new today as the climax of the national hurling league coincided with the start of the Leinster SHC.

The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick provided the setting for a mouth-watering NHL Division One decider between All-Ireland champions Tipperary and Galway at 3:30pm. These teams delivered a classic eight months ago and hopes were high for another high-quality encounter.

By the time that game threw in, the 2017 senior hurling championship had already started, with two games down for decision in the round-robin series of the Leinster SHC at 3pm: Meath V Kerry in Navan and Laois V Westmeath at Portlaoise.
