Laois land Lillis

Mick Lillis. INPHO

It looks like Mick Lillis will be the new man in charge of the Laois senior footballers.

The Portlaoise clubman has reportedly been recommended by the selection committee charged with unearthing a successor to Tomas O Flatharta and is set to be ratified, having beaten off competition from John Sugrue, Leo Turley and Joe Higgins.

Manager of the O'Moore County minors this year, Lillis is originally from Cooraclare in Clare.

Lillis was very much to the fore as Portlaoise became the dominant force in Laois club football in recent times, stepping down as joint-manager following their narrow Leinster club final defeat to St Vincent's in 2013.
