July 06, 2015

Colm O'Rourke keeps champion Jockey Davy Russel and Horseracing legend Jim Bolger apart prior to the off.

A who's who of Irish sports people will take to the St Conleth's Park pitch in Newbridge on Tuesday, August 11th for a celebrity hurling match in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

In its fourth year, the fundraiser is being organised by horseracing legend Jim Bolger and champion jockey Davy Russell.

A mix of GAA and horse racing stars will participate including DJ Carey, Nicky English, Brian Cody, Liam Griffin, Niall Quinn, Michael J Kinane, Kevin Manning, Katie Walsh, Ronnie Delaney, Colm O'Rourke, Mark Landers, TJ Ryan, Dave Bernie, Damien Fitzhenry, Charlie Carter and James Dowling while Cyril Farrell will be the referee.

Irish icon Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will be the day's craoltoir and Anthony Kearns will sing Amhrán na bhFiann.

Hurling for Cancer Research has raised €300,000 for the Irish Cancer Society's various cancer research initiatives to date and this year will aim to bring in even more.

To support this great cause, you can order tickets online on www.cancer.ie or by phone on CallSave 1850 60 60 60. Tickets are €10 for adults and €15 for families. All money raised will go to the Irish Cancer Society.

"We are so grateful for the amazing support we get each year from people who play a role on the day, to those who buy tickets and come out to support us," Jim Bolger said.

"The whole community gets behind the event and that's what makes it a brilliant day out. We have only been able to raise such a massive sum of money for research with that help.

"Davy and I believe that cancer research will play a major role in the successful treatment and cure of cancer in the future and we are proud to fundraise for this cause."
