We saw probably the two best teams in the country in action on Sunday while Galway's continued improvement and demolition of Laois marks the Tribesmen down as serious challengers. So who made our team of the weekend?

1. Darren Gleeson (Tipperary)

A Golden Oldie. Solid throughout and especially when Limerick pressed in the opening minutes of the second half.

2. Johnny Coen (Galway)

Looking more like the Johnny Coen of old and even bagged a goal.

3. Joey Holden (Kilkenny)

Many greats have worn the Black and Amber number 3 shirt. The Ballyhale man looks set for a long stint on the edge of the Cats' square.

4. Jackie Tyrrell (Kilkenny)

As ever the very heartbeat of the Kilkenny defence.

5. Lee Chin (Wexford)

The one Slaneysider who would be assured of his spot on the Kilkenny team.

6. Padraic Maher (Tipperary)

A colossus at the centre of the Premier rearguard.

7. Kieran Joyce (Kilkenny)

Operated at number 6. He made some terrific catches and marked a number of opponents out of the game.

8. Shane McGrath (Tipperary)

With his partner James Woodlock gained a solid midfield foothold for his county. Excellent interview with RTE as well it must be said.

9. Michael Fennelly (Kilkenny)

As per usual drove his team on and on.

10. Jason Forde (Tipperary)

Made up for previous disappointments against the Treaty side with a powerful performance.

11. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

When the champions scored a goal or looked really dangerous you could bet than the 2014 Player of the Year was involved.

12. John O'Dwyer (Tipperary)

A tactical swich here. With wrists of gold, Bubbles shot some points that had radar marked all over them.

13. Ger Aylward (Kilkenny)

Boy what a debut. Where do Kilkenny get these guys from? 3-5 from play. Nuff said.

14. Joe Canning (Galway)

Any player that shoots 1-15 in a match has to be included.

15. Seamus Callanan (Tipperary)

Ran the Limerick full back line ragged. Went off for a spell with a bad facial cut but still managed 2-5.

A number of other Tipperary, Kilkenny and Galway stars could also have made the cut but the bar was set very high this week. There are honourable mentions for Wexford sharpshooter Ian Byrne who notched 0-11 and Laois midfielder Paddy Purcell who looked a class act.

As for Limerick? Lets say the Shannonsiders, for all their passion, had a bad day at the office. The draw suited them this morning and they will no doubt feature in our selections during the weeks ahead.
