Minors ready for Leinster opener

April 16, 2014
Laois minor footballers have prepared to the best of their ability, according to manager Laurence Phelan.

This Saturday, the O'Moore County get their campaign underway as they take on Carlow in the opening round at Portlaoise. Throw in at 7pm.

Phelan has a couple of injury worries ahead of the match as both Shane Whelan and Jason Ward are struggling to be fit for the clash.

However, the manager is confident that they have the preparations done that should see them over the line against the Barrowsiders.

"Our preparation has left no stone unturned," Phelan told the Leinster Express. "The figures these lads have been reaching in training are phenomenal. No minor team is in as good a nick as these boys right now.

"We have to make sure players are strong enough to win and hold on to the ball, and then have the pace to it. We have a very professional backroom team and coming into a championship match we feel we are as physically and mentally prepared as well as we can be."
