Laois manager Tomas O'Flatharta has stressed the importance of beating Down on Sunday.

Last weekend's defeat to Monaghan and Galway's win over Armagh has left Laois in the perilous position of their fate is not in their own hands.

Even if they do manage to beat Down on Sunday, it may not be enough to keep them up, but O'Flatharta stressed to the Leinster Express that they must focus on their own game.

He said: "We have to win our next game to stay up. Doing the maths, we're depending on other results as well."

If Laois defeat Down and either Galway lose away to Monaghan or Donegal defeat Armagh then the Leinster side will secure their Division Two status for another year.
