Laois clubs receive 312 weeks combined suspensions

The dreaded red card
The Ballylinan and Heath GAA clubs in Laois have been left reeling from suspensions that they have received from the county board.

The sides meet in the Laois senior football championship last Thursday night, but the match was overshadowed by a mass brawl at the end of the clash and the county board wasted no time in dishing out suspensions to the guilty parties.

The match had to be abandoned by referee John Flynn and an ambulance was needed to transport a Ballylinan player to hospital for treatment.

A two years suspension was handed out to Ballylinan goalkeeper Pauric Walsh, while team mates Aidan and Gary Walsh received six-month bans as did The Heath's Daithi Carroll and Denis Booth.

Ballylinan selector Ger Walsh and The Heath's Pat Booth were suspended for one year, while Heath substitute Alan Bell received a one-month suspension.

The game is set to be replayed this evening Wednesday, while both clubs were handed €1,000 fines with a further €1,000 suspended for two years.

The clubs can appeal the suspensions and it is believed that they are considering their options at present.
