St Patrick’s manager Casey O’Brien is hoping that the Wicklow champions can build on their opening Leinster club SFC clash as they prepare for a quarterfinal joust against Laois kingpins Portlaoise.

The Wicklow side dug deep to grind out a win over Offaly champions Ferbane at O’Connor Park, Tullamore last weekend.

Showing great character, St Patrick’s did enough to get over the line on a 1-14 to 2-09 scoreline to set up a meeting with Portlaoise in a couple of weeks’ time.

O’Brien told the Wicklow People that they were already looking forward to the test against a side who are one of the favourites to lift the provincial title.

“Look, it’s great for us, to win the first round of Leinster. We’re at home and we’re going to give Portlaoise a right rattle as well,” said O’Brien.

He added: “We don’t want this journey to stop. Hopefully, we will get everybody in Wicklow to come and get behind us against Portlaoise in two weeks’ time.”
