Rathdowney-Errill and Laois star Ross King admits that winning a county medal just caps what has been a massive year.

This time last year, King was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons after he suffered a horrific injury in the county final defeat to Camross.

The talented forward left the Laois panel due to the mouth injury sustained and the whole incident made national headlines.

However, what a difference a year makes as 2019 saw King return to the Laois panel and help them win the Joe McDonagh Cup, while last Sunday he scored 0-04 as Rathdowney-Errill defeated Borris-Kilcotton in the Laois senior hurling final.

“It’s beautiful to be honest. It’s been five years and we’ve gone through two losses and they beat us in a replay in 2016 and then last year was horrific. I’m just delighted to be here in a happy way,” King told the Leinster Express.

“It’s been a great year for Laois people and especially Rathdowney-Errill people. We’re absolutely over the moon and you can see what it means to everyone. We’re a long time waiting on a bit of happiness to come rather than the other way.

“You could say I got my retribution two weeks ago, it was a special ending to a slow year, my touch was like a sharp spoon for a few months.”
