Laois manager John Sugrue has stressed that they can’t get carried away with the win against Down.

The Midlanders put in an excellent display to come away from Newry with a merited win against a Down side that were favourites to win the NFL 2 title.

The manner of Laois’ victory was very impressive as they trailed by five points at the break, but turned that around to win by six.

Sugrue pointed out to the Leinster Express that it was only one game and it is a long campaign yet as they prepare to play Louth at Croke Park this weekend.

“We came up to Down with a goal in mind and they stayed working towards that for the whole game,” said Sugrue.

“That’s all we can ask of them. We’ve another tough test now next weekend. Division Three is going to be tougher than Division 4 was, naturally enough, so we’ve got to keep our eye on the ball.”
