A Laois fixtures review committee has proposed that Gaels teams (amalgamations) should be scrapped outside senior level.

This includes Senior ‘A’ and affects the likes of Colt Gaels and Clonaslee St Manman’s who both ply their trade in the senior A hurling championship.

Another club that could be affected is Mountmellick Gaels who play in the intermediate football grade as the report suggest that Gaels teams only be allowed in the premier senior grade.

There have been a number of proposals put forward with regards to Gaels’ teams as the report revealed that there was 87 amalgamated sides competing in various competitions across all grades in 2018.

Another suggestion by the committee which is sure to raise an eyebrow or two is that games should be played nine, eleven or 13 a side if it allows clubs to field on their own.
