Laois county board have confirmed that they will be putting John Sugrue's name forward for ratification to manage the county's senior footballers again in 2019.

The Kerry native took over the reins as O'Moore boss late last year on a single year term and steered the team to a Division 4 National League title, as well as a first Leinster SFC final appearance in 11 years before losing out to Monaghan in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Based in Portlaoise, Sugrue worked under Pat O'Shea during his tenure with the Kingdom in 2007 and 2008 and then went on to manage South Kerry to a county senior title triumph in 2015.

He had recently been mentioned as an outside candidate to succeed Eamonn Fitzmaurice, who stepped down as Kerry manager last week after six seasons in charge.
